Calcined clay has been used in the bonsai tree industry for decades to improve drainage and regulate soil moisture in your bioactive setup. Our calcined clay can be used as a soil amendment for these properties. Additionally, we recommend using calcined clay on top of your drainage barrier in order to seal your primary drainage layer against soil intrusion, to add a source of calcium carbonate for the exoskeletal growth of your isopods (clean up crew), and to aid in regulating soil moisture by absorbing water and releasing it to the surrounding soils if they begin to dry.
